Anatomy of Temptation

In Acts 5, we see the story of Ananias and Sapphira who faced a sudden death when they kept back part of the money for themselves instead of giving the full amount to the church. They didn’t die because they gave little which how some may interpret it. They died because of their selfishness and dishonesty. They were prompted to lie to the Spirit of God and they fell for it. In the end, what they thought would be good for them became the very reason why they died.

It is vital to understand his tactics to avoid his deception. Satan, as his name suggests, is the Father of all Lies. He lies and deceives us into thinking that when we do what he tells us to do, it will be to our advantage or that it will fulfill our longings. He never lets us see the real picture. He lures us into opening a beautifully wrapped gift but when we open it, we will see that it’s full of filth inside. Satan won’t come and appear like a monster dressed in a horrible costume. Instead, he will appear harmless in our daily lives. He wants to control each of us in a very subtle way.

Satan tempts us in every way possible. But can we avoid sinning? Can we say no?

James 1:13-15 states that “13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

Satan suggests what you should do, but YOU do what you want to do. It is YOU who are to decide whether to take the bait or not. Remember that Satan doesn’t just want you to take the bait. He wants more than that. He wants you to get hooked.

Is there anything in your life now that you need to let go?
