Kung Hei Fat Choi

I know it’s pretty late but as they say… “It is better late than never!”

For those celebrating the holiday, Happy Chinese New Year to all of you! I hope you enjoyed your break from work. And be careful in spending your Ampao.

Ampao or red packet is a monetary gift given on special occasions like weddings, etc. It is also given (usually) to children during this season.

Although we are adults already, Hubby and I still received our fair share of Ampao.

Have a happy new year ahead to all of you!

Any of you celebrating Chinese New Year?

  1. Happy Belated New Year!

There’s been a lot of discussion at work as to who receives the red envelopes. (Many of my coworkers are Asian.) I think they decided that it’s married people give them to unmarried people, so it’s interesting to see how different people do things! :)

We just read about the red envelopes today in my childrens’ History and Geography lesson :-D . According to their book:

“The Chinese New Year is not the first day in January. It is at the end of January or the first part of February. Chinese fathers and mothers put money in a little red envelope. They put the envelope by their sleeping child. They put the money in a red envelope because red means good luck in China.”

    Timely lesson! :-D

Thank you and a very happy new to you to! My oldest daughter, who’s almost 13, loves learning about different cultures, so I will share this with her.
She wished me a Kung Hei Fat Choi and told me since it is the year of the dragon, I will have a wonderful year because she learned I’m a dragon. Our kiddies can teach us so much if we just listen.
    Happy Friday!

We have one Chinese girl at Brownies, and her mum came in to do a themed evening with the girls, so they all got envelopes to open on new year. It was really sweet of her :)
