Last Tuesday, my husband told me that Joel, his friend who did us a favor during our wedding preparation, was in the ICU because of an accident. Then last night when he went home, he broke the news to me. Joel is gone. =(
As I was scanning his facebook profile, I can’t hold my tears. Death does come like a surprise. You really won’t know when it’ll come.
The question remains: Are you ready?
My answer is half half. 1st Half – I still want to spend a lot of time with my husband. I still want to touch the face of our first baby (if we will ever be given one). I still want to write a book. But all those are small things compared to the other half. 2nd Half – I am ready because I know where I am going.
Fact # 1: Thousands of years ago when people sinned, they have to sacrifice offerings to the Lord. The Bible says, “…without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” When Jesus died on the cross, He became THAT sacrifice. His blood made room for forgiveness. Now, we don’t have to sacrifice lambs, goats or whatever when we sin, Jesus did that already.
Fact #2: We have to understand that we are sinful people, loosely translated: bad people. It doesn’t matter how bad but we are plain BAD but God is HOLY. We can’t reconcile Bad and Holy. That is like water and oil. Therefore, ALL OF US can’t go to heaven. No matter how good you “think” you are, listen closely: YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO GO TO HEAVEN.
Fact #3: And that gets us back to Fact #1. Jesus died for us and that gives us the bridge to heaven. All we have to do is REPENT. Turn away from our sins. And TRUST our Lord as our Savior.
When are you going to do that? Are you willing to do that today? (Get right with the Lord now. We don’t know when our time will come.)
