5 Must-Haves in a Stormy Situation

Basyang definitely made most of us scared especially when it started to whistle loudly outside making us imagine that our ceiling is about to bid us good-bye! I heard there are about 10 to 15 more storms to come before the year ends. They may not be as strong as Bashang , Ondoy or Milenyo but we sure need to be prepared.

Here are 5 Must-Haves for every home:

1.)    Battery operated Radio – We woke up with no electricity the other day and it lasted for more than 24 hours. There was no other way to know what was going on outside other than our radio. Be sure to have one and some spare batteries in case the battery runs dead.

2.)    Canned Goods – Unfortunately, we use electric stove and rice cooker at home, so when we learned that there was not electricity, it meant hunger on our end. Luckily we had some foods stored in our cupboard. Plus the fact that my mom’s house is right beside ours so we cooked some foods in her kitchen.

3.)    Flashlight/candles+matches/emergency light – All we had then was a piece of candle and we’re glad my husband’s phone comes in with a built-in flashlight so that helped us survive.

4.)    Boardgames/Playing Cards – My sisters were totally bored and visited our house looking for some things to do. Good thing we have a chessboard and that kept us awake until the light came back.

5.)    Extra Huge Plastics –Before I slept that night, I made sure all our stuff is safe. My husband, Bert, prepared a huge plastic where we could put our clothes in case it suddenly floods. It’s better safe than sorry.

Tip: Make sure your important documents are sealed in an envelope (passport, birth/marriage certificate, etc) and kept in a safe place.

How bad did Bashang hit your place? Where you ready for the attack? Do you have other tips for us?
